Deanna Minich, PhD

Russel Reiter, PhD

Satchin Panda, PhD

Melatonin has been referred to as "the next vitamin D," due to the significant number of ways it impacts human health, from sleep to its role as a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory agent, circadian rhythm signaler, and mitochondrial health regulator.

In this masterclass, Dr. Deanna Minich interviews 10 of the leading researchers and clinicians on melatonin and specific areas of health, sharing valuable insights to empower your wellness journey and explore the intricate interplay between melatonin and circadian rhythms, uncovering how they influence our health and well-being in ways we may not fully recognize.

The Melatonin Masterclass is a 12 day online event with two interview tracks - one for health professionals and one for the general public.

Meet Your Host

Dr. Minich is a nutrition scientist with an interest in phytochemicals and biological human rhythms. She heads up the medical team at Symphony Natural Health as Chief Science Officer, and was lead author on an award-winning melatonin review paper published in the Nutrients journal in 2022.

“With so much misinformation circulating on melatonin, especially on social media platforms, we decided to invite world-leading experts in this area of research to set the record straight on all the common questions and misperceptions of melatonin: its functions, levels in the body, food sources, supplementation, and specific roles in conditions like sleep, dementia, immune dysfunction, and cancer.

The end product of this investigation is the Melatonin Masterclass, which highlights insights and guidance from academic researchers and clinicians who have spent decades on these topics, publishing thousands of papers on every aspect of this remarkable, multi-tasking molecule.” - Deanna Minich, PhD

Meet Your Experts

Russel Reiter, PhD
Russel J. Reiter, often referred to as the “father of melatonin,” is a Professor of Cell Biology in the Department of Cell Systems and Anatomy at the University of Texas. He is the author of the book Melatonin, has published over 1000 scientific publications on melatonin, and has been researching melatonin since the 1960s, focusing on multiple receptor-independent and receptor-dependent actions of melatonin in humans, animals, and plants.

Satchin Panda, PhD
Satchin Panda, PhD, is a leading expert in the field of circadian rhythm research. He is a professor of Biological Studies and a founding executive member of the Center for Circadian Biology at the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Panda is the author of the books, The Circadian Code  and The Circadian Diabetes Code, and the founder of the Ontime Health app designed to reprogram your body's circadian rhythm through food, sleep and exercise.

Daniel Cardinali, MD, PhD
Dr. Cardinali's field of scientific interest is the physiology and pharmacology of melatonin, particularly its therapeutic applications in Sleep Medicine. He completed postdoctoral training at MIT’s Laboratory of Neuroendocrine Regulation, Department of Nutrition and Food Science, under Dr. Richard J. Wurtman, the world-renowned melatonin researcher and holder of the patent for low-dose melatonin as a sleep aid. Dr. Cardinali was one of the first physicians to treat Alzheimer’s disease using melatonin.

Paolo Lissoni, MD
Dr Lissoni is a world-renowned oncologist from Italy who has published hundreds of scientific papers focusing on oncology and systemic human diseases from a clinical psychoneuroendocrineimmune (PNEI) point of view. He is internationally recognized for his breakthrough clinical research on using melatonin in patients with cancer.

Dun-Xian Tan, MD, PhD
Dr. Tan has published hundreds of papers and worked together with Dr. Russel Reiter in the field of melatonin research for 30 years and was the first to report on melatonin’s novel functions as a free radical scavenger and antioxidant.

Richard Neel, MD
Dr. Neel is board-certified in Aerospace Medicine and served over twenty years as a Chief Flight Surgeon in the US Air Force before retiring at the rank of Colonel.  He is currently a physician with a clinical practice of emergency, urgent care, and family medicine in Texas, and has treated 10,000 patients with COVID-19 using melatonin.

Fernanda Amaral, PhD
Dr. Amaral's research interests focus on the mechanisms of pineal synthesis and the action of melatonin, including the role of melatonin in the circadian organization of energy metabolism, circadian miRNA expression, and the brown adipose tissue and thermogenesis regulation.

Horacio de La Iglesia, PhD
Dr. Horacio de la Iglesia has a PhD in Neuroscience and Behavior from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he studied the neuroanatomical interactions between the master circadian clock of mammals and the brain centers that control reproduction.

Siim Land
Siim Land is an 8-time best-selling author, anthropologist, keynote speaker, and longevity enthusiast who has been researching health and longevity for over 10 years.

Terry Wahls, MD
Dr. Terry Wahls is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and conducts clinical research using functional medicine principles in the setting of multiple sclerosis. Dr. Wahls has secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, which confined her to a tilt-recline wheelchair for four years until she restored her health using a diet and lifestyle program she designed specifically for her brain. She has been recognized for her work on mitochondrial health, and has authored books, including The Wahls Protocol.
